    DiscoverOur Story

The Monsoon is the brainchild of Shams Uddin, the owner who started it in 1999. In mid 90’s, he managed Clifton an Indian restaurant along Brick Lane. motiroti an international arts company, whilst making The Seed The Root, wanted to make visible the invisible by using installations and interventions experienced as guided walks. Shams agreed to be part of the project.

Clifton served as a mid-point where audiences got a chance to rest, converse and sample foods. They were served with stories by Shams and home cooked off-the-menu Bangladeshi dishes. Encouraged by the audience feedback, Shams soon went on to manage Café Bangla and Curry Bazaar.

First restaurants of its time which promised Authentic Bangladeshi Cuisine whilst all others traded as Indian Cuisine, food from home, the way mother’s passed the recipes down, has a taste like none other. Shams and his team know just how to do so!
